Alien: Covenant is a 2017 American Sci-fi Horror directed by Ridley Scott and written by John Logan and Dante Harper, a sequel to the 2012 movie Prometheus, it's the second instalment in the Alien prequel series and the sixth instalment overall in the Alien movie series, as well as the third directed by Scott. The film stars Michael Fassbender, Katherine Waterston, Billy Crudup, Danny Mcbride, Carmen Ejogo, and Demian Bechir, and follows the crew of a ship that lands on an uncharted planet before making a terrifying discovery. Now I'm a huge Alien fan, I absolutely loved the first two movies and although the third one is really bad I enjoy laughing at how awful the fourth one is and lets just not talk about the AVP movies, so I was really excited by the news of another, especially if its being directed by Ridley Scott (the king of sci-fi), and lets just say that I was disappointed. This movies not awful, definitely not, its not even as bad as Prometheus but it has so many problems that its hard to have a good time watching it (and isn't that the purpose of a movie, to please the viewer). I'll start with the good things though, such as the cinematography, this movie is absolutely stunning, the vast majority of the shots are so well produced that in some moments I felt my mouth slightly open in awe of what I was seeing. The acting was another strongpoint, Katherine Waterston was really good in this movie (although she is kind of like Ripley 5.0) and I also thought that Michael Fassbender was really good as well but surprisingly for me the standout performance was Danny Mcbride, I really liked him in this and his performance managed to give off several different emotions when he is only usually associated with comedy. Now onto the flaws, Ridley Scott has said that this movie was designed to answer a lot of unanswered questions that previous movies (*cough* Prometheus) had left behind but what this movie mostly did is bring up some more confusing new questions so that we can get more movies and they can get more money, Alien: Awakening has already been announced and guess what.... it's a prequel. I also fount this movie to be quite boring, especially the first 20 or so minutes, its not because things aren't happening yet its because of how awful the pacing is. The actual Xenomorphs themselves are barely in the movie and the moments that they are feel like a completely different movie. In terms of how the aliens look, the Xenomorphs look great, I was genuinely impressed with how they looked, but every single other different type of Alien looked awful, like a 2004 video game creature and for the budget that this movie had that's pretty disappointing. ![]() Overall Alien: Covenant was a disappointment even though it has great visuals and a few fun, entertaining scenes it fails at answering a lot of questions and creates even more and to me it felt like a cash grab to set up more movies which means more money and that really annoys me, Alien: Covenant gets a.....................

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is a 2017 American superhero movie based on the Marvel comics superhero team, Guardians of the Galaxy, produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt Disney studios. It is the sequel to 2014's Guardians of the Galaxy and the fifteenth movie in the MCU. The film is written and directed by James Gunn and stars an amazing returning cast featuring Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Michael Rooker, Karen Gillan and Sean Gunn, alongside some great new characters played by Pom Klementieff, Elizabeth Debicki, Chris Sullivan, Sylvestor Stallone and Kurt Russell. In Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, the Guardians travel throughout the cosmos as they help Peter Quill learn more about his true parentage. I had alot of fun with this movie and I can pretty much guarantee that everyone else did too. A big question that alot of people will be wondering is whether its better than the first one and the answer to that is yes and no. On a story based perspective then the answer is no, the first movie has a far stronger and less crowded story and flows alot more smoother than its sequel, but in my opinion, on an entertainment perspective, the sequel actually made more progress for me. This movie is absolutely hilarious and a lot of that is due to Dave Bautista as Drax, he was by far the funniest and had the best one liners out of all the characters, in fact I don't think that there is a bad performance in the entire movie, every character perfectly fits their role, even Stallone safely mumbles his way through his scenes. Chris Pratt is great in this movie and its a good job as the movie is definitely his movie in regards to the story as it tells the tale of his father and his relationship with peters mother. The chemistry between the team that made the first movie so good is present again and instead of just using the same formula, the sequel actually adds to the first movie and I really admire that. You really get a feel for how much James Gunn appreciates these movies and you can see it in his directing, he directs with such a fun, energetic buzz and that is perfectly assisted by his characters/actors. In honour of how funny this movie is, here's some of my favourite lines from Guardians of the Galaxy vol 2 -
"I have faithlessly huge turds" - Drax, 2017 "oh sorry, I meant trash panda" - Starlord, 2017 "I'm Mary Poppins y'all!" - Yondu, 2017 Putting all of the humour and excitement aside for a second, this movie can at times provide a real emotional punch that a certain scene (which I wont be mean and spoil) brought tears to my eyes, although to be fair just the sight of Baby Groot made me tear up because he's so god damn cute. |
