The Greatest Showman is a 2017 American musical drama film directed by Michael Gracey in his directorial debut, written by Jenny Bicks and Bill Condon and starring Hugh Jackman, Zac Efron, Michelle Williams, Rebecca Ferguson, and Zendaya. The film is inspired by the story of P. T. Barnum's creation of the Barnum & Bailey Circus and the lives of its star attractions. The hype and the initial buzz had pinned The Greatest Showman as the next La La Land, but was it????? No. It doesn't come anywhere close to the grand scale of feelings that La La Land delivers...but was it good.... Yes. I had alot of fun with this movie, the story of P.T.Barnum is an interesting concept for a movie and it definitely worked, I was consistently entertained by the fairly simple plot and felt slight emotions when the plot would shift in a certain direction. The performances are all very good and manage to keep the energy of the movie bouncing along at whatever pace the movie needs it to be, Hugh Jackman is incredibly entertaining, so is Zac Efron and Zendaya, but one of my favourite performances came from Keala Settle (by god can she sing). The visuals and cinematography are also very well presented. Obviously the strongest aspect of the movie were the songs, they are for the most part all good although some are overplayed too many times, the songs that stood out to me were This is me, Come alive and Greatest show (which gave the movie its strong opening). My biggest problem is that although the performances are all good, not all of the characters are, the vast majority are incredibly undeveloped and sometimes feel like they've just been shoved into a scene that they don't belong in. ![]() Overall its nowhere near an amazing musical spectacular but its a whole lot of fun, so I'd recommend checking it out, The Greatest Showman gets a............

Thor: Ragnarok is a 2017 American superhero film based on the Marvel Comics character Thor, produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. It is the sequel to 2011's Thor and 2013's Thor: The Dark World, and is the seventeenth film of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The film is directed by Taika Waititi and stars Chris Hemsworth as Thor alongside Tom Hiddleston, Cate Blanchett, Idris Elba, Jeff Goldblum, Tessa Thompson, Karl Urban, Mark Ruffalo, and Anthony Hopkins. In Thor: Ragnarok, Thor must escape the alien planet Sakaar in time to save Asgard from Hela and the impending Ragnarök. I don't need to tell anyone how big of a marvel fan I am, I grew up reading the comics, I collected the toys (I still do) and adored the characters and I can happily say that the MCU has done the comics justice by giving us some amazing adaptions, and this is certainly one of them. I had a lot of fun with Thor Ragnarok and I can't see why anyone wouldn't. Director Taika Waititi is one of my favourite directors, he's given us What we do in the shadows and Hunt for the Wilderpeople (go watch them), which are two superb movies and now he's given us this beauty. He shows of such a vibrant and energetic flair with his directing that really pushes the film along in a smooth motion. The performances were another very strong aspect, Chris Hemsworth gives his best Thor performance so far as he has a new found energetic feel about him, Tom Hiddleston, Ruffalo, Urban and Tessa Thompson were also really entertaining but Taika Waititi himself stole every scene that his character was in. Colours are another thing that this movie really utilises well, its so vibrant and once Thor leaves Asgard the movie has a chance to show of how colourful and exciting the universe is. Now for the very few nitpicky criticisms that I have (after all I am a bit of an arse when it comes to reviewing movies), this movie is hilarious and there's a lot of humour, and I never thought that I would say this but at some moments.......it's too funny. Before you all start and say "how can a hilarious comedy movie be too funny", what I mean is that sometimes the movie will try to be serious or have an emotional scene and then it will make a silly joke, which yes is very funny but takes us away from the serious moment and renders it useless. I also fount Cate Blanchett to be slightly too much with her performance as Hela in some moments and I felt like she could have been given more important screen time as I never felt like she was a threat other than the scenes of her killing a bunch of dudes. But those are just my tiny nitpicks. ![]() Overall Thor Ragnarok is a whole barrel of fun and I would 100% recommend any of you to see it, energetic and entertaining performances, fun fast paced directing and vibrant set and costume designs earn Thor Ragnarok an.................. Big mouth is a 2017 Netflix animated series created by Nick Kroll and Andrew Goldberg and also features the voice acting talents of Jordan Peele (best known for directing Get Out) and Jenny Slate (Mayor Bellwether in Zootropolis). If your easily offended or can't accept form of dirty joke, then firstly you need to grow up and secondly you need to avoid this show. The entire theme of the series is a bunch of high school kids taking there first messy steps into puberty and all the troubles that follow and it's about time that such a gross topic was given an animated series. Now onto my actual review of the show, I absolutely love this show, it's fantastic, myself and bin cat have thoroughly enjoyed binging this show and we would highly recommend that you check it out right now! If my words aren't enough then how about the 100% that it currently has on rotten tomatoes. The voice acting is perfect, every voice perfectly suits each character with my favourite characters being the hormone monster and a character called Missy. Just like some of my other favourite animated series such as Rick and Morty and Adventure time, this show does have some heart to it, it's also about friendship and emotion and it does those topics just as well. The animation is very simple but it's quite clear that it's a deliberate choice, I personally really like the animation to be honest. Just as a heads'up, keep an eye out for my favourite scene in the entire series which is a song by "Freddie Mercury". ![]() Overall Big Mouth is an incredibly hilarious and well thought out series that covers some very personal subjects in a fun and easy to watch way, Big Mouth gets an............... IT: Chapter One (promoted as IT) is a 2017 American supernatural horror film directed by Andy Muschietti, based on the 1986 novel of the same name by Stephen King. The screenplay is by Chase Palmer, Cary Fukunaga and Gary Dauberman. The first of a planned duology, the film tells the story of seven children in Derry, Maine who are terrorised by the eponymous being, only to face their own personal demons in the process. The novel was previously adapted into a 1990 miniseries. The film stars Jaeden Lieberher and Bill Skarsgård as Bill Denbrough and Pennywise the Dancing Clown, respectively, with Jeremy Ray Taylor, Sophia Lillis, Finn Wolfhard, Wyatt Oleff, Chosen Jacobs, Jack Dylan Grazer, Nicholas Hamilton and Jackson Robert Scott in supporting roles. One of the most common phobias is the fear of clowns (coulrophobia), one that I don't personally share and one that I'm sure will make a lot of people avoid this movie completely, but if your one of those people then your making a huge mistake. This movies great, I absolutely loved it, there were parts that I didn't exactly agree with but overall I loved it. Lets start with the losers club, with the exception of a few stand outs and the complete underuse of Mike, they were really good, across the board they all gave very good performances, especially Sophia Lillis and Finn Wolfhard, they were my second and third favourite of the movie. Obviously, by a country mile my favourite performance was Bill Skarsgard as Pennywise the dancing clown, he was absolutely terrifying in this movie, he genuinely got under my skin on so many occasions and he brought the likeable humour and the raw horror that Pennywise possesses. On the topic of Pennywise I thought that his makeup was arguable the best aspect of the entire movie, it looked insane, and I know that alot of critics have been hating on the special effects (CGI) but I think that they forget that the movie only had a budget of £35 million, which is fairly low for a big named movie like this one, so I think that it did well with what it had. The story of the movie flows well, it keeps you entertained as it goes from scare to eighty's nostalgia and the story itself is very easy to follow. Lets talk about the actual scares, I hate when a horror movie is pretty much just tense music and jump scares (that's not what horror movies are about), I want a creepy zombie lunging at the camera to scare me, not a cat that jumps out from behind a bin, oh bin cat, why do you live behind a bin, there are much nicer accommodations...right lets get back to what's important. There are a decent amount of jump scares in this movie, but there all done well as in there all actual necessary jump scares, not bin cats. Although the jumps scares are outdone by the creepy imagery and the R rating that the movie has shows very clearly as we witness such scenes as Pennywise dangling of a child that is hung on a meat hook, an eight year old getting his arm ripped off and the gruesome fate of bin cat, or whatever the bloody hell his name is. ![]() Overall I'm super excited for chapter two and to see if they can handle the adult versions of the losers club better than the miniseries did, and for all you people asking - I prefer Bill Skarsgard to Tim Curry as Pennywise ( I'm gonna get hate for saying that but I don't care), excellent performances, a fun and easy to follow story and haunting visuals gets IT an............ Get Out is a 2017 American horror movie written, co-produced and directed by Jordan Peele, in his directorial debut. The film stars Daniel Kaluuya, Allison Williams, Bradley Whitford, Caleb Landry Jones, Stephen Root, LaKeith Stanfield and Catherine Keener, and follows a young interracial couple who visit the mysterious estate of the woman's parents. I saw this movie late, and I mean late, it was a cold evening and my girlfriend and I decided that we should check it out, little did I know that I was about to watch what would become one of my favourite movies of all time. This movie absolutely blew me away, the performances, the directing the cinematography, the score, it's all perfect. Jordan Peele shocked everyone, not just because of how well he's directed his first movie, but how shocking his first movie is, its very clear how passionate he is about the topic of racism and that really helps the movies shock factor, especially the incredible twist at the end of the movie. Lets talk cast, Daniel Kaluuya is fantastic as the movies lead, he gives a very real performance and you can easily get behind him and support him. Another stand out for me was Lakeith Stanfield, a lot of the scenes he was in were some of my favourite in the entire movie. The horror is done so well that it almost feels real, the dream sequences that our main character goes through are so visually amazing that you literally can't look away. There's also a lot of good humour mixed in there as well which I always appreciate if its done well. ![]() Overall Get out is one of the greatest movies I have ever seen in my entire movie loving life, and I've seen a lot of movies, Get Out gets an............ Wonder Woman is a 2017 American superhero film based on the DC Comics character of the same name, distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures. It is the fourth instalment in the DC Extended Universe. The film is directed by Patty Jenkins, with a screenplay by Allan Heinberg, from a story by Heinberg, Zack Snyder and Jason Fuchs, and stars Gal Gadot, Chris Pine, Robin Wright, Danny Huston, David Thewlis, Connie Nielsen and Elena Anaya. It tells the tale of a goddess named Diana and her journey to war torn Europe in search of the god of death Ares. Now I don't need to tell anyone about DC's track record so far (its been pretty bad), but does Wonder Woman turn things around........not really. Wonder Woman is a really great movie don't get me wrong, but one decent movie doesn't just make everything okay, that challenge is on the Justice League movie, if that's good then DC will be forgiven (mostly). Gal Gadot is really good as Wonder Woman, she definitely fits the role for me, but Chris Pine stole most of the scenes that he was in, and did anyone else wonder why the guy from Trainspotting was in this movie, like seriously, why, he serves no purpose, I didn't even find him funny, other characters are already comic relief, so why, never mind. There are also some insanely over the top villain moments in this movie that just made me cringe a little bit, and I really didn't buy the whole Ares reveal, he's the bloke from Harry Potter not the god of death. The action set pieces are a lot of fun to watch and the return of the Wonder Woman score from Batman vs Superman made me very happy. If you like thigh's, ass and pretty girl's then that's another reason to drag yourself out of the basement to watch it. ![]() Overall even though it doesn't set things straight for DC, it is still a lot of fun to watch, I give Wonder Woman a............... It Comes at Night is a 2017 American psychological horror film written and directed by Trey Edward Shults. It stars Joel Edgerton, Christopher Abbott, Carmen Ejogo, Kelvin Harrison Jr. and Riley Keough. It comes at night is about a disease that has spread across the world and has killed off the majority of the population and Joel Edgerton and his family are trying to survive out in the wilderness. I went in this movie with no expectations, I'd seen the trailer and new it started Joel Edgerton but that was it, which is unlike me, and I'm so glad that I did. I thought that this was a brilliantly crafted movie, I was really pleasantly surprised as I didn't think it would be anywhere near as good as it was. The first thing that I have to mention is the acting, Joel Edgerton gives of one of the best performances that I've seen in a long time, his character gives of such a real performance that it almost scares you to think that the disease is actually coming for you, the supporting cast also give great performances especially Kelvin Harrison as the son who has very frightening nightmares, but Edgerton steals every seen that he's in. The cinematography also blew me away, some of the shots are just beautiful and really deserve to be seen. On the horror side we have the tension, I have never been on the edge of my seat more than watching this movie, the way the camera moves, the way the set I designed, it adds this fear deep inside you that really shows how good if a horror it is, it also makes you pee a little. ![]() Overall an incredibly strong group of performances, stunning visuals and heart pounding tension earns It Comes at Night an........................ |
